The only thing that's disappointing about HL2 is how hyped the AI was made by Valve. Like at E3 with the traptown video, that was supposedly unscripted and the AI would approach a situation in different ways (like blasting through the window as the other guy tries to barge in). But anyway, I still enjoyed it quite a bit as it had some very cool moments like Ravenholm and the whole strider segment. I'm not sure what you mean Doom about the game being very demanding on your system, I thought it was very well optimized. Well optimized means to me that it runs constantly at somewhat the same framerate, beit good or bad, as long as it runs constantly. Load balanced that is. With HL2 (and many other games with it) it's absolutely not like that. If you have some extreme high end pc or extreme low settings you won't notice the difference in fps from location to location, but I do. I start a game, put up the config I think is reasonably and try it out, if it works it's fine, if not, I adjust and I keep adjusting until it runs fine. I use a program called FRAPS to measure the framerate and see when it drops not only by noticing frameskipping but also by the dropping fps counter... So if your game runs at 60FPS (good) and then when you enter the next room it drops below 20FPS (bad, chop chop) and then when you exit that room it jumps back up to 60FPS (good again) you really start wondering if this game was really well made. This isn't just about HL2, there are many games which suffer from this phenomenon *cough*HALO*cough*... (sorry for the late response Hope nobody minds )

You topped off the _HALF-LIFE_ thread. Of course people mind. This should never again be posted in, because everyone knows (though most are loathe to admit it) that everything (up to and including flossing) is more fun than playing Half-Life.

Sorry for that, I just had to share that stuff... So, why won't you lock this thread when you hate it being posted in anyway? I wouldn't mind, but neither would I mind a nice long lasting discussion about this immensively overrated game.

I don't lock threads unless they deviate from the original subject AND that deviation sucks. i.e. I won't lock 'Kingdom Hearts', because any deviation from KH is good, and because the discussion in that thread is actually not bad. I would, however, lock a thread about animals in the General Board that turned into a discussion about why Christians should make the laws. =)

I think that I would do the exact same thing in case of the animal thread But I also think that if a topic got offtopic at some point that someone may turn it back ontopic at any moment

Ah, I see what you mean DooM. Yeah, the load times are awful. I like to play with my Homestar Runner figurines on the desk while waiting Yeah, I wouldn't even mind the AI being so sucky if they'd actually have you fight stuff other than Combine. Apart from Ravenholm, like every level is filled with them. And unlike the troops and assassins from HL1, they're no fun to fight.

What? Sir Elton John wouldn't be caught dead saying 'badong'! Sir Elton John isn't the Chosen one, the Chosen one is I don't think he actually has a name as he's only referred to as the Chosen one is his battle against evil master Betty...

Of course Sir Elton John is the Chosen One. Maybe you're talking about some OTHER Chosen One, but Sir Elton John would definitely not say 'badong'.

The real Chosen One invented the word Badong and it's opposite Gnodab! Google on it and I'm sure you'll find the real Chosen One! The one who is only referred to as the Chosen One or by Mufasa: Chosimba One!
