Lies-Billy Talent, mainstream band but I love the song because I've been lied to so many times.
Anthem of our dying day-story of the year, again a semi-mainstream band but I love this song because it really helped me out with my best friend dying, and it fit my mood, so well because I was really depressed.

Ah, well I really just remember them from just after I moved to the U.S, (3 years ago or so) and they were only just BARELY starting to get a following.

Spanish Train, by Chris De Burg. Seriously, even if you hate his songs normally, try this one. The lyrics are great.. Involves the devil betting with god. Very good, unique and fun. =P

In general? This thread is about Particular songs. Not bands in general.
I've been playing the song "Me and the Devil blues" on guitar for the past few days. This song is one of the darkest songs I've heard. You can't tell by just listening but then when you see the lyrics. I'll show you a snippet:
