Gears of War - Xbox 360
I run along a street, breathing heavily before diving behind a ruined car, loosing off rounds as I look over the bonnet of the car for where my foe had gone. Then, with a sickening feeling, I hear the undeniable sound of a chainsaw starting up.
Gears of War. One of the best games I have seen for a long time. Basically, it excels in most of the fields. I admit I haven't done the singleplayer, but the multiplayer is supreme. The gameplay is awesome, and its really good fun. The only realy problem is the fact its only on the 360. But lets start at the beginning.
In multiplayer there a several different gamemodes, my favourite being execution. Basically, if you die once then you lose the match. You can't die from bleeding out. Normally, when you get to basically one health, you can't do anything and after a certain amount of time you die from blood loss. in this you get back up again, unless they cut you in half, shoot your head, or break your head off.
The cover system is genius. You can shoot wildly over the top, not aiming, or you stand up and aim, before dropping back behind to reload or when under heavy fire. Its well exectued and a crucial tool - you die incredibly fast, the gears of war logo becoming emblazoned on the screen as you lose health, until you hit bleedout when you can';t do anything and the symbol is clear.
The shooting is great and the weapns ingenious. My personal favourite is either the skyhammer or the chauinsaw gun. The skyhammer calls down a massive laser beam from orbit which you can trace around, dealing massive damage. But I love the chainsaw gun. When you hit them with it it literally cuts them in half, blood spraying onto the screen so you can't see the horrific amount of gore.
Its a must have game, supplying great action and masses of fun. But its not for the faint hearted.
Basically, buy it. If you don't have a Xbox 360, buy one then this game.
Its that good.
