I've been working on the same novel for some six years keep on scraping it. Mostly I think it's because I'm lazy but I think it could also be due to the fact that my outlines were too vague in areas. Indeed I started out with none at all just ideas in my head which ended up good in a lot of areas but generally disastrous. Currently trying to better my outlines from chapter to chapter. Probably only going to keep part of one chapter for my latest go at it. Now I'm taking a big poster board and writing quick chapter by chapter summary also have a map I made for technical purposes. I avoid using outlines in general when it comes to short stories especially when the goal is humor but this is far too complex for me to not use an outline. If any of you knows anything about latin and could help me with a couple words would be appreciated. Also it twould be nice to know how you guys outline your stories assuming some of you do.

I've tried to, brainstorming and outlining are a good way to go about it. Otherwise you'll forget good stuff before you get to writing it. I would suggest after you have your outline ready to just write through the whole novel. don't look back, no concern about punctuation spelling or anything. I've heard that's the best way to go about first drafts.

I'm trying to write a book but it takes too long and it is also hard to get really original ideas.

Meh, there's nothing new under the sun except raisins. It depends what you mean by original ideas I suppose. I have what I consider, and the people to whom I have had look over it, have said are original ideas but I must stress they aren't for the fact that every idea is based on knowledge already aquired and perhaps just odd combinations of old thinking at best. Try, for instance, to imagine a new primary color.
Modify- I forgot to respond to you Jest sorry:p Yeah, I think I'll do just that been behind on working on it with messing about on the piano. Seems to have been preoccupying my time of late. An unmitigated addiction so much so that my fingers and wrists are severly messed up:p
