In this thread, staff members and members with staff permission may post a tournament. The tournament will have its own thread as well, of course, but in this thread you can see active tournaments, their rules and themes, their medium (art? words? story?), and their current status. If you are running a tournament, keep both this thread AND your tournament's thread updated with the status of the tournament. Did Zade just defeat Zeke in a duel? Post that. Don't create a new post every time you update a tournament status - just modify your post, and the first post in your thread. That way, people will be able to get ALL of the tournament status information easily, and in this thread, they can browse through all of the active tournaments and get their status all at once.

This is an example of a tournament post. Note that I set the subject to the name of the tournament, rather than leaving it as 'Re: Tournaments'. Tournament InformationType: Story-based Setting: Medieval Arena - Low-tech/high-magic Fantasy Theme: Melee Combat Tournament Rules: No custom equipment; No mechanisms; No pre-fight enhancements Combat Rules: Yield at any time; Combat lasts until subdue or forced yield. Prize: £100 Registered combatants: Jest, Avelon, Soul-Divider, Chaos, Zeke, Zade Tournament Status Avelon----| B1 ---------- Avelon---------| Jest------| Sem. F -------Chaos-----| S-D-------| B2 ---------- Chaos----------| Chaos-----| Finals ----------| Chaos
Zeke------| B3 -----------Zeke-----------|-------Zeke------| Zade------|
Winner: Chaos -- A quick explanation of the rules: Yield at any time means that you can yield to your opponent by dropping your weapon and lifting your arms. The fight ends here. If your opponent harms you after you yield, s/he is disqualified - however, if you yield in the middle of an attack, it's your own d**ned fault. No custom equipment means that the tournament will provide you with the equipment you will use in battle. No mechanisms means that things such as the 'Exploding Lobster' are prohibited. You fight with what you are given. No pre-fight enhancements means that you may not enchant your equipment or yourself before a battle. You can, however, do both of these things *within* the battle. Subdue and forced yield are similar. To subdue your opponent is to knock them unconscious or immobilize them. Your opponent obviously cannot yield, but s/he cannot fight, either, so the victory is awarded to you. Forced yield is when you disarm your opponent or get into a position (such as a sword across their throat) where you have obviously won. Keep in mind that not every disarming is automatically a victory for you! It depends on the circumstance. You are not required to post explanations of your rules. So long as they are clear, then there is no need. If you know that one of your rules is not self-explanitory, then go ahead and post the meaning of the rule at the bottom of the tournament. In the thread devoted to your tournament, make sure that if you use a 'no custom equipment' rule, you post what equipment IS available for use in the tournament.
